The Bus Brake Pad is one of the most important elements that make up the air disc brake assembly on buses and coaches, in fact it is the largest component. The brake disc provides the contact surface for the brake pads, which creates friction for the braking system, so it is subject to a lot of pressure and heat.
These bus brake pads are made of alloy and are durable. Designed to give you the best driving experience for as long as possible. Once you install them and start driving, you will most likely notice changes. Dirt and other annoying particles that can cause degradation (especially crowded rides!) are not a problem. During routine maintenance, the brake disc must be thoroughly inspected, and it is recommended that the following areas be checked during routine maintenance or brake pad replacement:
Check the condition of the brake disc contact surface from the underside of the vehicle and as far as possible through the wheel assembly, looking for thermal cracks, unevenness, large grooves, discoloration (blue) and hot spots on the surface.
Brake disc thickness checks must be carried out regularly. On vehicles with 19.5-inch and 22.5-inch wheel assemblies, the new brake discs measure 45mm with a minimum allowable wear thickness of 37mm. Brake discs must be replaced at 37mm, as running a disc below this minimum thickness increases the risk of disc breakage.
During pad replacement, rotate the disc and inspect the cooling channels/pillars for any cracks or extensive corrosion, as cracks formed through the cooling channels/pillars can cause the disc to break under high-speed braking.
