Brake pads are a component of disc brakes used in automotive and other applications. The brake pads consist of a steel backing plate with friction material bonded to the surface facing the disc brake rotor.

Brake pads convert the kinetic energy of the vehicle into heat through friction. Two brake pads are included in the brake with their friction surfaces facing the rotor.
